What a very informative article. You not only give the understanding of Affiliate Marketing but how to do it and how to get traffic to your sites as well. So much is shared here so thanks heaps for that. I like how you say posts stay out there forever. That is nice to know as a blogger myself! Once again great tips on affiliate marketing and I will definitely be referring back to this article!

Advertising Disclosures - Let your audience know that your links are affiliate links, either with a page on your website with full disclosure or by including a disclaimer in your content. If you're honest and transparent with your audience, then they will be more likely to trust you and check out your recommendations. Make sure that you review our Partner Terms of Service, which outlines the rules, regulations, and FTC requirements that you need to adhere to as a Shopify Affiliate.
No matter where you’re at with your business - whether you're a newbie or seasoned expert - it’s always beneficial to drive more traffic to your store. More traffic means more leads, more leads usually mean more conversions, and more conversions means more sales. The bottom line? Affiliate marketing done right can dramatically increase your sales and revenue.
Before we can get into affiliate links, first we need to talk about the affiliate program. An affiliate program is hosted by a company that wants to use marketers who are not employed by the company to promote their product or service. These marketers, and their social media accounts, are often related to the product or niche in some way. For example, a health blogger might sign up for an affiliate program promoting vitamins.
Besides affiliate links, publishers can get access to tracking reports (clicks, sales, impressions), additional promotional materials (banners, copy, email templates) inside the retailer’s affiliate platform. These platforms also handle commission payments so publishers can expect to be paid around the same time each month, usually by Paypal or direct deposit.
SEO optimization is important to rank high on Google and draw attention of potential customers. However, the content you fill your website with has to maintain this attention and turn website visitors into customers of products/services you sell as an affiliate. Popular ways of promoting affiliate offers include writing honest product reviews, using in-text content links, email marketing activities and offering unique discounts and special offers.
Sponsored posts on Instagram can be a great tool to increase your followers, and engagements on specific posts. If you have a coupon code, or a working on a collaboration this can be a good way to increase sales. You can target your audience to specific demographics including location, interests, behaviours and purchase intent which makes it easy to find the people you are looking for.
That being said, LinkConnector’s platform looks and feels outdated and is rather clumsily designed. Their dashboard also makes it difficult to find “hot” products or compare conversion rates, leaving affiliates somewhat in the dark about which products to choose. Ironically, despite their low-quality website, they offer some of the best customer service in the affiliate space.
It wasn’t until a few years until I only worked with free methods of affiliate marketing to boost my affiliate marketing salary. Once I started doing this, my profits started soaring. I would get sales and I was able to keep 100% of the profits. If you’re wondering what some of the free traffic methods that I was using, then I will share some of them with you.
So it means that 5 people will buy using your Affiliate link and let's say that you promote a product for $50 dollars and only 10$ will go for you. So you just made $50 Dollars after two weeks working less than 1hour in those two weeks. It’s really easy and realy fast money and if you know where to look you can get sometimes even $100 Commiosn for each person that bought product that you promoted.
Do Paul! Affiliate marketing is awesome – and you’re right, it can be overwhelming b/c it can be hard to know who to trust, but it’s a wonderful way to make money online — esp when you’re promoting products/services you are proud of. Let me know if you have any questions. There’s a lot I don’t know … and a lot I do. For what I don’t know, I can find the answer for you.
Flexoffers is another huge affiliate marketing network. They pay you (the affiliate) a lot faster than others in the industry. It has more than 10 years of experience in the field. You will see that I created a simple image with some selling features, noting the SALE, warranty, RETURNS and a big SWIPE UP which was pointing to my http://bit.ly/amazonferrariwatch URL I created from the Amazon Associates Affiliate Offering code (yea it’s a mouthful) but it’s the big long messy URL in the image below (which is from Bit.ly dashboard). This is an amazing officially licensed Ferrari watch backed with a 2 year warranty and FREE returns. It doesn’t get any nicer of a “sell” than offering all these things to an automotive enthusiast following like I have!
Include relevant information about the photograph and ask a question to your followers. This is important to drive engagement to your posts and it gives people the information they are looking for. Geo-tagging can help when customers want to find out where something is. A blogger utilising geo-tagging might include where they are in the photograph, while brands should geo-tag store locations to make it easier for people to find.

Rakuten Linkshare is one of the oldest affiliate partner networks that is gaining popularity very fast. To wade off competition as well as making it user-friendly, the platform come with some distinctive features. One of these features includes rotating different banner ads for specific products, making it easier to administer and optimize in the long run. Instead of having to select the ad, you would want to run on your blog manually; that will let multiple versions of ads rotate with a small piece of code.
Now here’s the tricky bit: let’s say you’re part of the Amazon.com program (for the US) and you generate an affiliate link for Amazon.com. If I, a polite little Canadian, skates over to your site and decides to buy a giant jug of maple syrup from your link, you won’t get any commission if I end up buying from Amazon.ca. You will only earn commissions from Amazon.COM.
StudioPress is a WordPress hosting service and framework that is designed to make setting up and running a WordPress site much simpler and easier. StudioPress comes with its own unique themes and SEO tools, collectively known as the “Genesis framework.”. Their affiliate program is solely for referrals to pay for a StudioPress framework account or buying a StudioPress theme. Previously, the affiliate program also included web hosting, but this is now managed separately by StudioPress’s owner, WPEngine.
The products and services you will be promoting to your audience must be relevant and good quality. Make sure you believe in them and know everything about them, because this will be crucial to you delivering the sales pitch to your audience. You need to build trust with your audience so make sure the products and services you choose to promote are trustworthy enough.
Buy a domain name that fits your niche. Names that have keywords in them can help you rank in the search engines. For instance “SaltwaterFishTanks101.com” might be a better choice than “SaltyTanks.com,” even though the later has a better “ring” to it. Often, hosting companies will offer a free domain when you sign up for a year of hosting, so look out for offers like that.
Everything I promote is about mass appeal and the path of least resistance to generating conversions / $$$. It is far easier to get someone fill out a short form than to get them to pull out their credit card and make a purchase. So why struggle with trying to sell this or that, when you can provide free information that users want/need and get paid well doing it.
MoreNiche is an affiliate network with a focus on several specific offers niches – Health, Beauty and Fitness. A high-qualified opinion leader who cares about their reputation and cooperations will always share statistics with a brand. Just ask for a full analytics report after a post/video/contest has been released. It’s better to collect the data in a week or so, depending on how often this influencer posts. DO NOT agree to cooperate with a blogger who will delete your post/video/reference in a week/month/day! If you hear this proposal from the other side, bow out and find the right person for the job. You’re better off finding an influencer who cared about your brand and will be happy to keep your mentions in his stream.

In effect, VigLink works as the middleman between a publisher (blogger) and merchants by scanning the publisher’s content and automatically creating links to publishers that are chosen “in real time” based on their payout/conversation rates. This makes VigLink a very hands-off affiliate program for publishers who prefer to focus on content instead of managing their affiliate links.
Many companies like GoDaddy offer bundle deals in which you can get domain and hosting services straight away and on the cheap. All you have to do is install WordPress CMS (Content Management System) and pick a dedicated theme for it. Fortunately, that’s not hard either. You can get both 100% free of cost. Frank, thanks for this primer one of my favorite business topics. I like your style. You wrote this “take Me By The Hand” kinda post and it works for me. I know that we all recommend products and services to friends and family members and never even think about getting paid. “Hey guy you ought see this movie, or eat that food, or buy those jeans.” When was the last time a company paid you consistently for your referrals? Some do I’m sure but most do not give you a dime to drive people to their store. Yet we make buying referral willing all the time.

Since the introduction of Instagram stories was released in November 2016, it has become incredibly popular as a peek into the day to day lives of some of the most popular Instagrammers out there. Anything that gets posted lasts for just 24 hours. @sheshopped posted about creating pretty ice cubes for her Marks and Spencer Australia photo shoot the next day. This lets people know to expect something new on your Instagram the next day to highlight that brand and piques people’s curiosity.
I’m a newbie and just stumbled into this article, which I find hugely informative. So thank you for writing this article. I’m close to finishing building my very first website and don’t have a domain yet, but have a question. Since affiliate program is considered a business, I’m wondering how do we set up a simple LLC one person company to separate our personal stuff from our online business stuff? Is there a simple reliable step-by-step guide we can follow, or does anyone here can advise with your own experiences? Thank you.
JVNotifyPro is a great resource and I have been using it for wuite a while now. For an affiliate marketer, it is a good site to be associated with as you get first hand notification of upcoming products and as you know, sometimes, being an early adopter can work wonders 🙂 Anyway, the key is indeed “finding the right” affiliate program and stick to it for a little while 🙂 Great advise

I once persuaded my mum to buy all my Christmas presents using my affiliate links on Amazon, and then found out that Amazon won’t pay out to anyone with the same surname as you (as they assume them to be family; luckily I have an unusual surname!) or anyone who lives at the same address. However one of my friends has ordered through one of my affiliate links and the commission has tracked for that. It’s my ONLY commission, mind. And my account hasn’t been shut down yet (touch wood, fingers crossed etc etc…)
The choices I’ve listed above are the affiliate networks that I’m most familiar with. Most I use today or have used in the past. It’s hardly a complete list of all the good affiliate networks that are out there since there are so many. If you would like to share a network that you really like working with please list it in the comments section at the bottom of this page.
I built several small sites that only sell ‘small’ items for sale on Amazon. Typically $4/$5 an item, and items that are usually bought in bulk. Painting supplies, for instance. I then take out a small Facebook ad at the start of the month promoting that site. Usually 2 or 3 orders of multiple products is enough to send my commision percentage up, then it’ll stay that way until the end of the month. Hope that helps someone. 🙂

Well, in my personal experience, affiliate marketing makes up the largest chunk of my blog income. Since getting started back in October, I’ve made a few thousand dollars from affiliate marketing (including $1500 in the first 30 days!). The road to get there wasn’t easy though… affiliate marketing isn’t just about dropping links and hoping people will buy things. There is, in fact, a lot more strategic thinking involved, which brings us to the next major question:
First of all, you need to create the banner ads you want your affiliates to use. If I'm in a rush I'll create some simple ads on my Mac using Pixelmator. It's a fantastic app that is only $29.99 compared to Photoshop, which will run you $9.99 per month. It's a great program if you're a professional graphics person, which you and I probably are not!
