Once your hosting is set up, you need to install a content management system (CMS) for your site. We recommend WordPress because it is easy to use and a beginner (like you!) can quite quickly figure out how it works. Most good hosting providers will have a one-click install option for WordPress, which means it will only take you a couple of minutes and you will have WordPress installed on your site.

The first question you need to answer is whether or not affiliate marketing is right for your product or service. There are two things you need to consider. First, have a look at whether your competitors are practicing affiliate marketing and how they’re doing it. If you see their products promoted by social media influencers and the like, it’s a good sign that affiliate marketing in your niche pays off.
But to make money with affiliate marketing you need to get a affiliate link to a product that you promote and you need to put this link in your description. You can easily by the end of the next week have over 1000 followers…and let’s say that only 10% will click your affiliate link and only 5% will buy using your affilaite link and I really low ball it because Instagram is really on fire when you know how to use it.
There are two characteristics that describe the variety of affiliate marketing programs, that are interconnected into a network, the best – types of offers and commissions. In today’s affiliate marketing the most popular types are game offers, casino offers, app offers, dating offers and nutra offers. The most in-demand commission types are CPA and CPI.
Since the late 90s digital affiliate marketing has grown to a big industry, in 2016 US-based retailers have spent $4.7 billion on affiliate marketing. According to estimates by 2021 the affiliate marketing industry will grow to $6.8 billion. Not surprisingly, given the size of the sector, there are a lot of different affiliate marketing companies operating in various market segments.
Affiliate Marketing is a great way for the regular guy to make extra income. Amazon, Petco, and Ebay are examples of companies that will gladly pay you to send buyers their way. Maybe after doing further research you might consider finding a way to supplement your income with a relationship with a great affiliate marketing company. No, website, no products no problem.
Another great thing about Amazon affiliate program is that you will have a choice of promoting products that interest you. You can promote the products by writing reviews or articles about the products. The earning potential in Amazon affiliate program is unlimited. Unlike other companies where you will earn by promoting a single product, Amazon offers you with a unique link that earns you a commission each time a customer purchases any product from the site.

Affiliate networks, often considered among some of the best affiliate programs, are marketplaces where ecommerce entrepreneurs can find affiliates to promote their products. While these networks make it a bit easier to find affiliates, some also charge monthly fees, which might not make them as suitable for early stage entrepreneurs. Others take a cut of your sales, which still gives you guaranteed positive ROI as a store owner. Some affiliate networks include Share-a-Sale, Tapgerine, Commission Junction, AffiliatePrograms.com, and LinkShare.
Flexoffers.com is another well-known affiliate that we have included in our top best affiliate programs. This program is well-established affiliate marketer that has gained a lot of reputation because of offering big offers on digital products, keeping their affiliates relevant. When a company offers large offers, more clients are likely to purchase, meaning more money to the merchants and affiliates.
When do you want to get started?  If you are just starting and have no audience then some of the programs may not accept your application to become an affiliate, while others will let you get set up in minutes.  If you want to get started straight away then make sure you’re applying for programs that are less restrictive. Generally the larger, network style places will enable you to get going quickly while specific niche programs may require you to have a certain audience size or characteristics.

Products are now put in a category. The commission will be based on the category each product has been placed in whether or not the category is correct. For instance, I had a sale for a child riding toy tractor. Instead of it being in toys category which would have only earned me 3%, it was actually placed in lawn and garden category which I then actually earned 8% instead.
Shopping on Instagram allows brands to add shoppable tags to their images. As you can see from the image above, these tags contain a product’s name and price. However, if Instagrammers click on a tag, extra information about this product will be displayed on their screen. Importantly, and super excitingly for eCommerce stores, a View on Website call to action button will also be displayed with the extra product info. This button will link directly to the product page on the brand’s online shop.
Affiliate Network – A middleman between the brand/merchant and affiliate (you). They are simply a broker between the two entities. The affiliate networks handle everything from providing you the affiliate links and tracking your activity to writing you the pay checks. In most cases you must be approved to join an affiliate network. We will discuss which networks to join in part 3.

This is a very common way to promote offers. For example, you will often see a blog post with links to certain products or services. If the reader clicks through and makes a purchase, the blog owner will make a commission. These in-text links blend in with other content on your site and are a great way of promoting an offer within your content, without being over-the-top salesy with banners.
Let no one tell you that email marketing is dead. An email list is crucial for every affiliate marketer. You can start building up your email list with a lead magnet (like the information products mentioned previously) or even just by encouraging your audience to sign up for your updates. You can then push your content to this audience via email and also direct them to your affiliate offers. Don't be sleazy about the sales, but if you build up enough trust with your email audience; when the time comes, they will not mind purchasing a product from you.
Landing pages can make or break a campaign. It just so happened that a landing page would benefit his particular vertical. He studied the landing pages from the competition. He programmed his own versions which were faster and cleaner. For two weeks his mind concentrated on improving each aspects of his landing page. The headlines, pictures, adding scarcity, etc. His landing page was actually better than a lot of other super affiliates. He took theirs and improved upon them.

Let’s go to the field of gardening, for instance. A site dedicated to gardening is appealing on its own. One more specialized site about a very specific aspect of that field is even better. You might create a site focusing on desert landscape plants or ornamental vines. Look at how detailed or distinct your focus is so you know what deserves to be targeted.

Ahh thanks for the kind words. Glad you found the post helpful. I would focus on building up a good base of content first before adding affiliate links, because like you said, some programs might not accept you if your blog is still so new. 2 posts is a nice start, but I’d definitely work your way up to 10-15 posts, enough to “fill up” the blog before you apply for affiliate programs. That’s just my opinion though! The other thing about starting too early is that you haven’t really established authority or a solid audience that trusts you yet, so the odds of readers making purchases through you is much lower as well. Focus on content first, then programs! The good thing is, you’ve taken Michelle’s course, which I thought was super helpful in terms of getting in the right mindset for affiliate marketing. Now that you know what sort of content works, you can get a good strategy set out from the beginning. 🙂 Best of luck!
Don’t go insane and join a million at once… think first about what would make sense for you to endorse. If you’re a travel blogger for instance, becoming an affiliate for hotels, tours and travel gear may be appropriate. Most companies will have an affiliate program, or be part of an affiliate network. Your best bet would be a quick Google: “company + affiliate program”.
URL masking: Often, you’ll find that affiliate links are a real, million character eyesore. It’s likely that your links will look like Merchant.com/dlfjlfjlfjdskljdfgimmeallyourmoneyalajdlkaf2131032klfjfdjldsjf. And let’s be honest, few people are going to want to click on that. URL masking is therefore when you create a prettier, cleaner “vanity URL” that makes your links more clickable. Some people use bit.ly, which has tracking purposes, or the WordPress Plugin Pretty Link.
As you can see in the image below, this process is really just a matter of listing the pages you want your affiliates to promote, naming them and creating a (preferably) short code to identify the page. (Your affiliate software will grab that short code and merge it into the URL it creates for your affiliates - along with each affiliate's unique code - so the software can track who is sending what traffic, where.)
