Domain Name Registration

Domain Name Registration

Registering a domain name is the first step to getting your website online.

Domains for Sale

A domain name is the name you give your website and will end in an extension like .com, .ca, .org, .info, or .net. There are many more extensions to choose from, but the .com extension is by far the most popular and the most familiar to anyone who uses the internet.

Already know the domain name that you want to register? You can register your domain name at DRC Webs.

How to Register a Domain Name

Registering a domain name is quick and easy. You can register a domain name with a big name registrar, but the prices they charge are outrageous. When you register with DRC Webs you get the same service at a fraction of the price.

To register a domain name visit DRC Webs and search for an available name. If the domain name you choose is available a green checkmark will be displayed in a box below the search bar with text that says "Congratulations! yourdomainname.com is available."

The second step to getting your website live is Choosing a Web Host.

A web host provides the space on the web where all of your website files are stored. Once you upload all of your files and folders (including images, pages you created, videos, etc) to your hosting company your website is live on the World Wide Web.

Tips for Choosing a Domain Name

As you search for the perfect domain name you may find that all of the "good" names are already taken. You may have to be a bit creative when choosing your name.

1. Try to choose a short name that is easy for people to remember. That is not to say that you can't choose a long domain name. As long as the name is catchy people will remember it.

2. Choosing a descriptive domain name tells your site visitors what your website is about.

3. Register .org, .net, and .info extensions to protect your brand and forward them all to your main .com website.

4. Don't register a domain name that infringes on another company's trademark or leads your visitors to believe that you are in some way affiliated with that company. You may be forced to give up your domain name.
