A Beginner's GuideDownload
In order to build a mailing list of targeted subscribers, you will need something called an Autoresponder. Aweber is the most popular one. At the time of writing this, Aweber is just $1 for the first 30 days and $19 every month after.
Aweber is Email Marketing Software. They provide you with the tools you need in order to put an opt-in form on your website, as well as a service to manage your mailing list.
Building a mailing list, in my opinion, is one of the most important things you will do in your online marketing career. In order to build your list though, you will need something called an opt-in form (provided by your Autoresponder Company). An opt-in form is simply a form that you put on your website that requests your visitor’s name and email address.
By signing up to your mailing list, your subscriber is giving you permission to email them. In return, you provide them with the opportunity to easily unsubscribe from your list at any time if they want to. After signing up, your subscriber also has to confirm that they did indeed sign up to be on your list. This is called permission based email marketing.
You usually use a Squeeze Page to build a mailing list. This is an attractive, well written one page website that offers your visitors something of value (usually for free) in exchange for their name and email address. The valuable free gift that you offer to your mailing list could be an eBook, a video tutorial, a weekly newsletter, etc., to name a few.
Once you create your squeeze page, you then drive Traffic to it. If you have done a good job creating your squeeze page, people will want to sign up to your mailing list.
As I mentioned above, a squeeze page is what is usually used to put an opt-in form on to build your mailing list, but you can put an opt-in form in many other places as well. You can put one on your main Website, your Blog, or even on your Facebook Fanpage if you like. But remember that wherever you place an opt-in form, you have to drive traffic to it. No traffic means no visitors to the page with your opt-in form and no visitors means no signups to your mailing list.
You build a relationship with your list first! "The Money Is In The List" is a phrase you will probably see quite often. What it means is that you build a list of targeted subscribers and you then promote related products to them. When they buy, you make money.
Once you build a mailing list, you then begin to build a relationship with your list. The way to build a relationship with your list is NOT to bombard them with promotional offers one right after the other. Be helpful. Send out valuable free content. Gain your subscriber's loyalty and trust first.
Once you have built a relationship with your list, you can then recommend related products to them. Your list will be more apt to buy from you if you build a relationship with them first, then when you send an offer to them, they will be more receptive to it. Treat your list well and they will treat you well.
